Last but not least, I champion leadership and capability building as the head of data architecture, managing a multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering high-impact solutions to our blue-chip clients.

A few weeks ago, I attended a change management course—atypical for data architects. There, I learned a game-changing lesson: change has both a technical and human side. As architects, we often focus on technical excellence, assuming its value will be self-evident. However, the human element—how stakeholders perceive the solution—usually drives resistance.
The key takeaway? Engage business stakeholders early, show them tangible benefits and integrate their feedback at every stage. It’s not optional; it’s essential for ensuring successful adoption of transformative solutions.
Continuous Learning: Mastering the 70-20-10 Model
Our industry’s rapid technological advancements create both opportunity and challenge. The key is continuous, strategic learning. Rather than trying to master every new tool, adopt a balanced 70-20-10 approach: 70 percent hands-on experience, 20 percent collaboration through conferences and peer discussions and 10 percent formal learning (certifications, courses). By focusing on core principles— architecture best practices, governance and security frameworks—you’ll build a resilient skill set to adapt to change and lead in an evolving landscape.
